Imaging CINAA

Technique of Neutron Instrumental Activation Analysis (
NIAA) takes activated samples that are investigated for content of a certain element. Excited nuclei of the element are descending to the stable level emitting unique radiation. If the radiation is detected and identified (mostly by energy measurement) then presence of searched isotope is confirmed and its concentration can be determined. The method is very precise and allows determination of very low fractions of elements (sub ppm level).
In major cases decay of a nucleus is accompanied by emission of electrons that can be utilized for imaging. When detection of more then one quantum is used in coincidence the method is called Coincidence INAA (CINAA).In this case we can determine not only quantity of a certain element but also its distribution.
Possibilities of position sensitive INAA with Medipix detector are studied now.
