An overview of available compact neutron generators based on DD, DT and TT fusion is presented and their main characteristics such as neutron energy and yield as well as dose equivalent rates are compared. Applications of neutron generators in elemental analysis, material research, dosimetry and medicine are discussed. The last part of the talk is focused on a new DT-neutron generator at the VSB-Technical University of Ostrava.
