Facility for nondestructive testing, diagnostics and 3D imaging based on neutron radiography and tomography
The method of neutron transmission radiography allows distinguishing materials which are invisible for other imaging
methods. The method is suitable for imaging of structures made of modern industrial materials e.g. composites or glued
joints. This project aims in construction of facility for neutron transmission radiography and tomography. The facility will
allow Czech companies to use this progressive technique of nondestructive testing. The existing nuclear reactor LWR-15
in Řež will be used as a source of slow neutrons. The two neutron beam lines will be built: One will serve for
radiography and tomography of large objects and the second will use the neutron mirrors for intensity enhancement and ill serve for neutron microradiography and microtomography. The important part of the project is development of neutron imaging detectors based on pixel technology Timepix. The detector with large area (15 x 15 cm) and the detector with very high spatial resolution (about 10 microns) will be developed.
