Abstract
A novel system for neutron dosimetry for avionics and space applications is described. The new dosimetric system is based on Medipix2, a high density pixilated Si detector with integrated readout and digital interface circuitry. A neutron dosimetry response has been realized through the coupling of a structured polyethylene (PE) converter with the Medipix2 chip. Utilizing the high grade pixilation of the silicon sensor and a variable PE over layer thickness, we demonstrated real time dose equivalent response to a fast neutron field independent of neutron energy. Experimental results obtained by the use of four different thicknesses of PE to 14 MeV D-T and Am-Be neutron sources are
described along with a comparison to results obtained with GEANT4 simulations.
