The potential of interferometric X-ray imaging: Fundamentals and perspectives to future applications

Veronika Ludwig

Abstrakt:

Grating-based X-ray phase-contrast imaging is an interferometric imaging technique which extends conventional absorption-based X-ray imaging. The imaging method utilizes micrometer-structured gratings and provides three images, simultaneously: The common attenuation image, the differential phase-contrast image and the dark-field image. The dark-field image in particular is sensitive to microscopic structures below the resolution limit of the imaging system, which would otherwise remain undetected in the conventional attenuation image. This talk will give an introduction to the grating-based X-ray imaging technique and its various application possibilities in medical imaging, non-destructive materials testing and laboratory astrophysics. In addition, the aims of our recently started joint FAU/CTU project to assess the microstructure of functional layers in membrane electrolyte assemblies are presented.
